Every activity can be an opportunity to grow, connect and try something new.
Through our Rize & Thrive Day Program, participants enjoy a diverse range of experiences across the Gold Coast and Brisbane. Each activity is chosen with purpose and adapted to suit the interests, goals and support needs of the people taking part.
From cooking and community outings to circus skills, skateboarding and inclusive dance, the program creates meaningful opportunities to build confidence, independence and practical skills while having fun with others.
Here is a look at some of the experiences our participants have recently enjoyed.
Building Confidence Through New Experiences
Trying something unfamiliar can be a meaningful step towards greater confidence.
During the Big Star Circus program, participants explored movement, tested new skills and stepped outside their comfort zones in a fun and supportive environment. The focus was not on getting everything right. It was about having a go, recognising individual progress and celebrating each achievement.
Our adaptive skateboarding experience offered another opportunity to build confidence through movement. Participants worked on balance and coordination while learning to take turns and support their peers.
The encouragement participants showed one another was just as important as the physical activity itself. Cheering for friends helped create a positive group environment where everyone could participate in their own way.
Developing Independence in Everyday Life
Independence often grows through practical experiences that allow participants to make decisions, contribute and build skills at their own pace.
During a group cooking activity, participants worked together to prepare sushi bowls. They selected ingredients, made choices and practised useful kitchen skills while sharing responsibility for the final meal.
Cooking as a group also created natural opportunities for communication, cooperation and problem-solving. Best of all, everyone could enjoy something they had helped make.
Our travel-based activities provided another practical way to build independence.
Participants explored the new tram extension while travelling to Burleigh, developing familiarity with public transport and navigating the local community. A Brisbane ferry day trip also gave the group an opportunity to explore the city, practise transport skills and become more confident accessing new places.
These outings turn everyday travel into a positive learning experience while helping participants feel more comfortable and connected within their wider community.
Creating Opportunities for Movement and Self-Expression
Movement looks different for everyone, which is why inclusive and adaptable activities are an important part of the Rize & Thrive Day Program.
Our inclusive dance program encouraged confidence, creativity and self-expression. Participants helped choose their favourite songs, while games and activities were adjusted to suit different mobility levels.
This participant-led approach allowed everyone to become involved in a way that felt comfortable and enjoyable. It also supported social connection as the group moved, laughed and shared the experience together.
Exploring the Gold Coast Community
Community participation is about more than visiting a destination. It can help participants become familiar with new environments, make choices and feel a stronger sense of belonging.
At the Gold Coast Show, participants enjoyed being part of a major local event and exploring everything the show had to offer. Choosing a showbag was a definite highlight and gave each person another opportunity to make their own decision based on what interested them.
A visit to a local farm created a very different experience. Participants interacted with animals, explored a new setting and enjoyed a variety of sensory experiences.
The group also travelled to Mount Tamborine for an accessible walk to see the waterfall. It was a chance to spend time in nature, explore the community and enjoy a shared outdoor experience at a comfortable pace.
Celebrating Moments That Matter
Some of the most meaningful experiences are the ones that make participants feel recognised and celebrated.
Birthdays are an important part of the Rize & Thrive community. Each celebration is shaped around the individual participant, helping create a day that reflects what they enjoy and makes them feel special.
These moments strengthen friendships and create memories that participants can share with their peers, families and support networks.
Every Activity Has a Purpose
The Rize & Thrive Day Program offers plenty of fun, but the purpose extends well beyond keeping busy.
Depending on the activity and each participant’s individual goals, experiences may support:
Confidence and willingness to try new things
Everyday independence and decision-making
Movement, balance and coordination
Communication and social connection
Practical cooking and travel skills
Community access and participation
Creativity and self-expression
A greater sense of belonging
No two participants are the same. That is why we focus on creating varied, flexible experiences that allow each person to participate meaningfully and progress in their own way.
